here’s an image i captured via my Leica M3 yesterday with my Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 shot @ f2.8
something that i see from photographers with wide aperture lenses is that they love to continuously shoot with the widest aperture on their lens when it isn’t needed. f/1.4 is made for available light/creative depth of field effects but when it gets in the way of the most important part of your portrait (the subject), it detracts from overall the image. A good picture should have a PLEASING BACKGROUND not NO BACKGROUND at all. Remember that bokeh can get to the point where it’s distracting.
