the 28mm focal length is my favorite focal length for general purpose photography.  normally people use the “normal” focal length of 50mm or a short-wide 35mm focal length.  with a 28mm lens, you’re getting about a 10-12 degree wider view than a 35mm lens.
to demonstrate how i use the 28mm, one time i was walking near Seattle Center with my other 28mm, the MC Cosmicar 28mm f2.8 (Cosmicar is owned by Pentax) and I was able to photograph the entire length of the EMP building, a group of Native Americans making canoes, and candid street photos without alerting subjects.
